AS220 EDITIONS

AS220 has a long tradition of working collaboratively with artists to produce limited edition prints. In 2016, with the support of Change Capital Funding, we launched a new invitation-based program through which we produce and sell works on paper by emerging artists. Two invited artists per year produce original work that our printshop staff and contracted professional printers help to realize as a limited edition print. The prints are produced using the AS220 Community Printshop facilities and made available for sale in our online store.

When completed, each print is launched with a pop-up show/exhibition organized and promoted by AS220 at diverse locales around Providence. Sign up to our mailing list to have these events shared with you as they're announced.

The AS220 Community Printshop is a public-access printmaking studio offering intaglio etching, traditional stone lithography, letterpress, silkscreen, and offset facilities. The shop is equipped with a range of printing equipment; including a Vandercook SP4 Letterpress and a massive Takach intaglio etching press with a 4.5’ x 9.5’ press bed donated by the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD).

Since 2005, the AS220 Printshop has taught over 1,500 individuals to become makers of multiples. Each year, approximately 550 people enroll in one or more of the Printshop’s classes. Our dedicated team of 2 staff members, just over a dozen Key Members, and around 15 Shop Members supports a shop that is publicly-accessible 5 days a week. Our resources range from a 1950’s letterpress to a one-of-a-kind 9 1/2 foot etching press. We support a community of over 400 active shop users from all over Rhode Island and across New England. The Printshop also serves the young artists engaged with AS220 Youth, a free multi-site arts education program focused on those in, and transitioning out of, state care and custody. Each week, a group of students ages 14-21 pursue printmaking at the Shop as an integral part of the Youth Studio’s visual arts curriculum.

The Printshop offers resources for:

In the spirit of AS220’s founding mission to provide an uncensored, unjuried, all-ages forum for artists, the AS220 Galleries extend the opportunity for every resident of Rhode Island to exhibit original creative work. In addition to free public opening receptions on the first Saturday of each month, the AS220 Galleries host free monthly artist talks by exhibiting artists.

In the course of a year, over 150 artists participate in the monthly exhibits at AS220’s rotating galleries. There is always work on display at these following spaces in Downtown Providence:
