Born on a military installation named after General Henry L. Benning of the Confederate States Army, Becci Davis is an interdisciplinary artist who identities as a daughter, mother, Black woman, Southern expatriate, and American. Her birth initiated her family’s first generation after the Civil Rights Act and its fifth generation post-Emancipation. She creates new histories and personal geographies by constructing realms of memory, devices for remembering people, places, and events.

This is the first print is from a project titled, Nostalgia, which considers the role of classic artworks in popular culture. Nostalgia questions whether canonic cultural monuments depicting false historical narratives or offensive representations of people of color should be reconsidered as society evolves?
